Fort Washington Library Children's Room

Last week, I wandered into the children's room at the Fort Washington branch of the New York public library. The adult room downstairs is on the older side, with dark brown wooden bookshelves and a few computers. But when I climbed the stairs to the children's room, I literally stopped and went "oooohhh!"

Each amazing lampshade has black and white silhouette's of children and animals playing. But since the shade are so gigantic, there are images printed on the inside as well! They mostly chose pictures and old maps of New York.


This is is really a gem of a room, hidden way uptown in a neighborhood of Dominican immigrants. The pictures don't show it, but there are also mini couches and colorful rugs to curl up on. Hopefully, it will encourage parents and kids to spend some quality time together reading there!

Cake sliders and fries

Following the directions given by Bakerella, I made a dozen of these ADORABLE cake sliders and fries.




I don't think I have ever made anything so adorable. It was a bit of work to assemble all the parts, but I spread out the work over a few days to make it easier and I used mixes for the yellow cake and the brownies. I decided to just put the fries straight in the red and white bins rather than make the mini holders, since I was putting the whole thing on a plate anyway.

They were met rave reviews from family and friends.
The pictures I took aren't the best, but they give an idea of the whole extreme cuteness. Bakerella's photos are much better - check hers out for some great shots.

Snow Day

Doors of New Orleans

My husband and I took a trip last year to New Orleans. We really loved the city. I spent one afternoon dragging him around the French Quarter while I took pictures of the colorful buildings.









The variety of colors was vast - it seemed like every color of the rainbow was represented! I wanted to put together a poster of these shots, but I never got around to it. Maybe one day...
