Cake sliders and fries

Following the directions given by Bakerella, I made a dozen of these ADORABLE cake sliders and fries.

I don't think I have ever made anything so adorable. It was a bit of work to assemble all the parts, but I spread out the work over a few days to make it easier and I used mixes for the yellow cake and the brownies. I decided to just put the fries straight in the red and white bins rather than make the mini holders, since I was putting the whole thing on a plate anyway.

They were met rave reviews from family and friends.

The pictures I took aren't the best, but they give an idea of the whole extreme cuteness. Bakerella's photos are much better - check hers out for some great shots.

Felt cakes

Once you have gotten your brooch bouquet, take the next step in wedding preservation with a felt recreation of your wedding cake.

They look so tasty! Each cake is handmade by Angela at Vivian's Kitchen. Most of the felt colors are hand dyed on 80% wool felt for durability and quality. The details look amazing - at first glance, I hardly noticed that the cakes were felt!

Friends of Type

I am not going to even give you any tantalizing peeks. This stuff must be seen on the original site, so you can keep clicking the "previous" button to make you sure you see every single thing they post. Typography that could be in your school textbook under the "awesome" catagory.

Go. Now!

Whimsical ceramics

I found these whimsical ceramics on etsy in Ninainvorm's shop. Nina lives in the Netherlands and makes ceramics and screen prints. I think these pieces would add a touch of fun and color to the table!

Collages

I have been experimenting with a new medium - collages. I am interested in exploring how different materials and textures come together. Obviously, you can make very intricate layered piece in Photoshop, but I want to pick up the scissors and glue and see what happens.

Artists have done some amazing things with collage:

Cut-and-pasted paper and printed paper, charcoal, ink, and chalk on colored paper on board. Picasso 1913.

Picasso did used a lot of musical themes in his collages - guitars and sheet music. Picasso used wires and glass, and all kinds of paper.

Pamela Johnson
Mixed Media Collage With Silver Leaf
(I couldn't find a year on this piece - but she is a current artist)

So far, I have been fairly happy with my results. But my collages are a lot more simple than this, working more with patterns and colors than layers.
I hope to post some collaged mini cards in my etsy shop soon.

Day Ruining Invoices

The very talented Jessica Hische has created a hilarious invoice to charge annoying client. After one of those weeks where every client was suddenly upset about everything, this me cracks up.

Flower topiary

I have been thinking about centerpieces recently, and I found a beautiful one at Creative Jewish Mom's blog.

She made it out of a vintage wedding bouquet.
Go see her instructions on how to make them. I'm dying to make one of my own!

Paper butterflies

I found these elegant butterflies on etsy in TerrorDome's shop. She uses texts which reflect different themes and turns them into mounted flapping butterflies!

The text and images on this piece are taken from a 1989 National Trust 'Book of Herbs' which is described as "a practical guide to growing and using herbs."
