Lamps by Seppo Koho

Finnish designer Seppo Koho at Secto Design creates amazing handmade lamps out of birch wood. The spaces between the slats of wooden allow for the light to glow through. This is classic Scandinavian design at its best - clean, simple and beautiful.

Baby shoes

Somehow, all things tiny are extremely cute. Mini sweaters and hats, tiny coats. But hardly anything is cuter than baby shoes. Wandering around etsy, I found cazhoffy's shop and almost melted into a puddle of cuteness. These shoes look just like styles you might buy for yourself. Only tiny.

Even the bottom of the shoes are cute!

Check out the rest of the shop for more. I sure hope I need a baby gift soon!

Magnolia Trees

Evey spring, I look forward to the blossoming of magnolia trees. I think they beat out cherry trees any day, with their delicate white and pink blossoms. Near my parent's house, there is a street with a whole line of them planted in center islands. And near my office, the court house has a nice lawn with a group of them as well. I meant to stop and photograph them, but their flowering season is so short, I didn't get a chance.

Here are some images from flickr to keep you satisfied instead.

Poster of Chez Panisse by David Lance Goines

Chez Panisse is a Berkeley, California restaurant that is known for jump-starting the whole local and seasonal food trend. What is perhaps less well known is their amazing graphic identity.

David Lance Goines, an illustrator, has enjoyed a friendship with the restaurateur Alice Waters, the co-founder of the restaurant, since they were both teenagers. Every year Goines creates a Chez Panisse anniversary poster and has illustrated many Chez Panisse cookbooks.

I was first introduced to these posters by my mom, who has this one hanging in our kitchen.

This poster is totally cemented into my brain as a symbol of my childhood home. It's been up there as long as I can remember. I even drew it into a scale model of the kitchen that I created for a 10th grade geometry project.

A few years ago, a weekly planner was published with the work of Goines for Chez Panisse, and my mom asked me to pick one up for her at Kitchen Arts and Letters, a Manhattan bookstore that specializes in food-related books. I was glad to oblige and was amazed to see the more of the work that Goines did. He used a distinct style that you can spot right away.

I like the idea of having the same illustrator create a new poster every year to commemerate the restaurant's anniversary. Great way to celebrate if you ask me!

The Kitchen Sink Recipies

Technically, The Kitchen Sink Recipies is a food blog. But in addition to yummy recipies, Kirsten tells the most wonderful stories about the food that really draw you in and leave you hungry! I have made some of her recipies and they have been delicious as promised.

But what is important for today, is her great photography.

I thought she had put up a post about how she takes her pictures, but I can't find it. No matter. Go feast your stomach and your eyes (and your heart) on Kirsten's blog. Don't blame me if you end up running out to the market on your lunch break to pick up the ingredients for her latest creation!
